GEORGE W. MITCHELL COLUMNS

Collection Title: George W. Mitchell Columns

Collection Number: 141

Dates of Collection: 1928-1939

Box Numbers: 1-5, 2 oversized folders

RepositoryChester County Historical Society

Collections Scope:

This collection contains primarily typewritten drafts of articles written by George W. Mitchell (b. 1863, d. 1954) for several newspapers, including the Coatesville Record.  Many of the articles are gossip columns, noting the comings and goings of Kennett Square residents.  He typed the articles on the back of advertisements for products and money making schemes that he had received in the mail.  Occasionally, they are typed on the backs of his rejection letters from various newspapers.  He was also the author of the series, “Nuggets of Interest,” which are arranged in four groups, occasionally repeating the same ‘Nugget’ in a different group with a different number.  This seems to suggest that different groups appeared in different papers.  Also included in the collection are several series that he wrote and newspaper clippings.

Collection Arrangement:

This collection is arranged by date of the columns, and then the undated series and columns, and then newspaper clippings.
