Biography:

George N. Highly was a banker and insurance agent by profession and local historian and genealogist by avocation. A lifelong resident of Malvern, Chester County, Pa, he helped compile the History of Malvern published in 1964 for the borough’s 75th anniversary. He was president of Chester County Historical Society from 1967 to 1970, a founder of the Malvern-Paoli Lions Club, treasurer of the Paoli Memorial Association. He was an art collector and served on the Chester County Art Association board. Also, he belonged to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

    He was unmarried and bequeathed his genealogical and historical papers to CCHS in 1978.

Collection Arrangement:

There was little evidence of a collection arrangement system. Thus, the Society arranged and described the papers. The collection is organized by four series. First by Genealogical papers, Photographs, Chester County historical research, and Topics.
