Genealogy and County Government Records

April 11, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

“My ancestors were from Chester County, what records do you have?” “Do you have birth records?” “When did my ancestors get married?” “My ancestor was listed as an inmate in the taxes, what crime did he commit?” “What are poor school children records?”

These are some of the most frequently asked questions our reference archivists receive from genealogists. While there’s a lot of genealogical data available at the Chester County Archives, the records here are limited to those exclusively created by the Chester County Government. For example, the Chester County Archives has very few vital records because traditionally the recording of births, deaths, and marriages were not functions of the county government. Join the Chester County archivists as they discuss how to effectively use county government records in your genealogical research.

This FREE event will be offered in a hybrid format. Attendees can join us virtually on Zoom or by reserving an in-person seat at the Chester County Government Services Center (601 Westtown Road, West Chester, PA 19382). Those individuals interested in joining us in person must register on Eventbrite and email [email protected] to reserve your seats. Those wishing to join by Zoom will receive a Zoom link by email from the Chester County Archives. For questions, email [email protected].   REGISTER
