Let’s Talk! A Hands-On History of Communication for Kids

April 13 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

First we spoke. Then we wrote. Then we printed, listened to radio, watched television. Now we surf the internet and send messages with emojis. Visit the Chester County History Center for its first “Let’s Talk!” event, during which families can explore the many different ways we have communicated with each other in the past. Learn how to write using a quill pen, experiment with printing messages using a printing press, express yourself using the language of fans, tap out a message on a telegraph, and more! Before social media and telephones, handwritten letters were one of the very few ways to communicate across town, across the country, and around the world–stop by our special exhibit “Letters and Postcards: Chester County 1820-1920” to see real examples of how people from our area shared their lives and experiences with distant loved ones.

This event is best for children ages 6-13. Activities are ongoing throughout the program, so you can arrive at any point in the day and get the full experience, at your own pace.
